Women for a Change, Cameroon (Wfac) is proud to announce its participation at the 64th sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB64) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), taking place from June 8 to 18, 2026, in Bonn, Germany. Building on the organizational milestones outlined in our 2025 annual report, Bold Feminist Leadership, Wfac is set to fiercely advocate for the intersection of climate justice, gender equality, and grassroots resilience on the global stage.
The Strategic Importance of the Bonn Climate Conference
The SB64 consultative meetings serve as the critical technical engine room of the international climate negotiation cycle. It is in Bonn where the actionable frameworks for climate finance, adaptation mechanisms, and just transition pathways are rigorously shaped before formal adoption. For Wfac, these sessions are a vital platform to ensure that the lived realities of African women and girls are embedded directly into the core of global climate policy. It is here that grassroots feminist perspectives are translated into the binding mechanisms that ultimately guide worldwide climate action.
During the two-week conference, the Wfac delegation (Dr. Zoneziwoh and Mr. Emmanuel) will actively engage in a series of crucial activities aimed at advancing the feminist agenda, such as participating in mandated events and technical dialogues. The key focus areas will include:
- The Just Transition Work Programme: Pushing for economic shifts that center care, gender equity, and community-led solutions.
- The Gender Action Plan: Monitoring the operationalization of the Belém mandates from COP30, ensuring that gender-responsive climate action is fully funded and integrated across all negotiating tracks.
- Loss and Damage & Climate Finance: Advocating for equitable, accessible financial architectures that reach frontline communities directly.
- Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE): Championing educational and public participation strategies that empower youth and women in climate governance.
Wfac approaches these sessions with immense enthusiasm. We expect robust, progressive, and positive technical outcomes in Bonn that will set a powerful, ambitious precedent heading into the pivotal COP31 summit in Antalya, Turkey, this November.
