Wfac granted UNFCCC Observer status

Congratulations to us all at Women for a Change, Cameroon on being granted a provisional admittance by the COP Bureau to the United Nations Climate Change Conference taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 30 November to 12 December 2023 (COP 28). The past years, we have been supported by our feminist sisters who have offered badges to our delegates to attend and engage the UNFCCC Climate negotiations process. Just the kind of feminist solidarity we advocate and encourage. As a feminist organization working in/with marginalized and climate affected communities and individuals, whose voice or perspectives often gets absent in such international climate negotiations spaces, attaining the UNFCCC Observer status provides us the power to better influence the international climate negotiation processes no longer from the periphery but from within.

With this status, we will continue to work with our feminist partners & the women constituencies across the African continent, most importantly those from the ECCAS/CEMAC subregion, who equally uphold the Feminist principles, to develop statements, designate official representatives to observe the negotiations, and meaningful engage the entire processes.

While we are happy to say today that we too can delegate representatives to attend the UNFCCC climate negotiation meetings, we wish to use this opportunity to thank organizations such as @WEDO,  AJESH, Centre for 21st Century Issues (C21st) who over the years have always shadowed our members under their delegations. A true example of Feminist leadership and solidarity. It is this spirit, which we also bring to the global feminist climate justice space.
